Frequent clenching and grinding of the
teeth can chip and wear away the enamel, causing potentially extensive damage. The
muscles that move the lower jaw may become tender, and the pivot point, or jaw joint can
also be injured and develop pain. Occlusal guards, or bites
splints, can be made by your dentist and used to
protect the teeth, joints and jaw muscles. These devices
reduce harmful biting forces, and are easy for patients to insert and
remove.
